We are officially 3 months done with this deployment! WOOHOO! At times it seems like its flown by & at others, its creeped along slowly. Its nice to have such a milestone (1/4 done), but at the same time, I can't help but think about the other 3/4ths we have to get through. I'm trying not to focus on that too much though. Anyway, here are some of the highlights from the month:
- Installed my own beautiful sunflower showerhead...ahh. So nice! And I did it by myself!!!
- Wasn't too miserable on
Valentines Day, mostly due to the beautiful roses I got from the hubby! :) And the kids at school helped a bit too.
- Celebrated my dogs' 1st (Rufus) and 4th (Scout)
birthdays!!! They really enjoyed their gifts and I enjoyed being a dork & "wrapping" them for them. They've only destroyed one of their new toys, so thats pretty good.
- Spent my 23rd
birthday in San Antonio with my wonderful parents who flew all the way from California!!! Went to the Riverwalk and the Alamo, ate at the top of the Tower of Americas & got a wonderful massage!!!
- Had a crazy, fun weekend going to a candle party and a "splurge" party at a local clothing store! I got a lot of cool stuff & didn't spend toooo much money!
- Got slightly stressed out about life in general and all the things I have to take care of on my own. I've been consciously trying to just depend on God and give Him my burdens and things have been getting better. I still miss my husband terribly and wish I wasn't the one in charge of everything, but I know I'll get through this. It was definitely an "I'm really over this deployment" month.
- I survived (barely?) TAKS testing day (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) and had to wrangle a class of Kindergarteners and deal with a snake in the vent. Lets just say it was a day I won't forget anytime soon. Oh, and did I mention we have 3 more of these days before the year is over? Great...
- I successfully linked my TiVos (I know, I'm a dork)...ahhh! I like TV a lot, if you didn't know. I feel like a technical guru. Oh, and this is definitely not necessarily a "big girl" accomplishment (something I did on my own during the deployment) because my husband is...shall we say...not technically savvy. Still awesome though! At least I'm excited.
- Started a mini herb garden. I have chives, rosemary, mint, oregano, parsley and basil. Some have started sprouting up already too!!!
Deployment Goals
1)
Bible Study- Been good on that front. Still loving my Stormie Omartian book. Thought about joining a small group at church but then I realized adding another thing to my schedule might send me over the edge.
2) Get in shape- Still good at this. I definitely have been walking the dogs every day (even in the rain) and have been very consistent with the Wii Fit. I've also added 10 minute DVD workouts to my regiment daily. There haven't been any huge changes, but my BMI is definitely going down little by little.
3)
Cooking- This month, I made my sister's chili (YUM!) and Parmesan Mashed Potatoes. Let me know if you want the recipe. I also spent some time grilling (I'm getting pretty good) and made a delicious Soy sauce steak (I stole the recipe from the back of the soy sauce bottle), mmmmmm! Let me know if you want any recipes.
4)
Church- Other than when I'm out of town, I've gone every single week. I helped out in the nursery (1s & 3s) twice this month too.
5)
Work on the house- Does keeping it clean count? Oh oh, the sunflower showerhead definitely counts! And I got an automatic waterer for our tree in the backyard. And I fixed part of our floor. And my dad helped out with a few things while he was here too.
6)
Read a new book every month- Ya, I'm kind of in the middle of like 3 books right now. Didn't get a chance to finish one.
I also want to add a goal:
7) Work with the dogs on obedience-I really need to do this. Its not like they're terrors, but
Rufus' new trick was not fun (jumping on the tables) and he really needs to stop jumping in general...on counters or people. So, instead of just complaining about it, I'm actually going to do something about it.
Countdowns:
25% done with the deployment!
28% of the way to R&R!
Prayer Requests
- Sleep/rest for Nick. He's been doing a lot of night missions lately, and seems a little worn out.
- Quality of communication. Obviously its a little difficult to have a relationship when you're thousands of miles away from each other and don't have consistent communication.
- Strength and patience through the rest of this deployment. Obviously this deployment has been wearing on me a little bit lately. I could use the strength to get through the rest of it and the patience to not be so affected by the little things.
Some of the things I'm anticipating in the next month:
- Going to Washington state for Spring Break (TOMORROW!!!). I'm pretty much anticipating relaxing and keeping warm (drinking hot cocoa, snuggling under blankets, etc.).
- Building my new stools for the table on the patio!!!
- Another "coffee" with my coffee group in a couple of weeks- this one involves St. Patrick's Day (a little late, but oh well) and beer tasting. Should be interesting and fun!
- Being even further along with this deployment.
Alright, off to bed. I have an early flight in the morning!!!
